Prepare for the Summer Heat

For those of us living in Southern California, it's sometimes easy to forget how hot it can get during Summer. While we live in the one season world of "summer" all year long, thousands of visitors from all over the world come to SoCal to enjoy our beautiful weather.

If you are planning a Summer road trip to an area within California or the western United States that has temperatures in the 100's, here are five tips to prepare your Chevy for the extreme heat:

1. Park in the shade when possible. This will keep your Chevy cooler -- both inside the Chevy and within the engine compartment. Extreme heat will make your battery lose power faster, so do your best to keep your Chevy cool.

2. Protect your engine from overheating. Make certain your engine has fresh, clean oil, the fluids are topped off, the belts and hoses are in good condition, and that any worn parts have been replaced. Protecting your engine before you hit the road will reduce your Chevy's risk of an inconvenient breakdown.

3. Are your tires ready for extreme heat? Make sure your tires are in good shape. When the rubber hits the road and that road is burning hot, your tires need to have plenty of tread. Additionally, make sure your tires are not under or over inflated, as that could produce a slew of problems from a flat to a blown out tire.

4. Keep your passengers cool by servicing your air conditioning system. A properly functioning climate control system within a Chevy is a must have for hotter areas of the country. Don't be caught with a broken A/C system, and never, ever, ever leave your children and pets in an unattended Chevy during the Summer heat.

5. Invest in high quality window tint that not only provides privacy but also absorbs heat and is UV protectant against the sun. A Chevy equipped with this type of window tint improves comfort by rejecting up to 60% of the heat coming through your windows. It also provides interior protection by blocking up to 99% of harmful UV rays to reduce fading of your Chevy's interior. Lastly it also has UV/Skin protection that provides SPF of up to 1000. Paring this up with a front window shade can keep your Chevy cool when parked out in the sun.
